How to set goals for your business

What is your measure of “success”?

Is it a particular revenue milestone?

Or, a lifestyle goal?

Maybe it’s a feeling you’re chasing?

I’ve been thinking about how I set & achieve goals in my business and how I support my clients to do the same.

My husband and I had a big goal this summer – we needed to re-shingle our house. We also didn’t want to incur more debt to do it.

Success in reaching this goal meant we had to generate the cash funds. ($6000!!)

So, we pooled our resources, went after the low-hanging fruit, and I worked my butt off all summer between client work & launching The Business Cocoon.

And…🥁 the work starts on Monday with more than enough financial resources to cover the job. 🎉

Success!!

My Q4 goals are a bit different. I want to stabilize my business at the income level I currently have (because more more more doesn’t have to be the goal!) while carving out time to teach more yoga, do cozy things like reading & baking, and find a rhythm to my days/weeks where I’m balancing more self-care with doing work I love.

Like nature, we have seasons.

Sometimes our seasons are ambitious and we push harder than usual.

And sometimes our seasons are more chill and relaxed.

No matter what the season, our creative process still requires attention.

This is how we stick to our goals, measure our success, and become the creator of our desires.

Here’s a reminder of the 6 steps to reach your goals: 👇

1. Clarity. Nothing happens without a crystal clear vision of what you want. Visualize it in the 5 senses. Imagine it to be true.
2. Reality check. What’s in the way of what you want? You can’t move past it unless you know what you’re up against. This requires some real honesty (and often a really good coach!).
3. Source your power internally. This is huge. There are a lot of voices out there telling you what you should & shouldn’t do. You have complete permission to ignore what doesn’t resonate. You don’t have to outsource your wisdom. Period.
4. Trust your gut. Your intuition combined with good information should always be at the heart of your decision making. When it feels off that’s a sign to make a shift.
5. Feel good about the numbers. Metrics matter. Feeling comfortable with the honesty of data is far too often overlooked and ignored yet it is also HOW we manage overwhelm and direct our energy to the right places.
6. You need strategy. All of the above steps will inform your strategy which is the action you’ll take to reach your goals.

As I lean into my goals, I’ll be taking myself through this process to ensure that I’m clear, aligned, and consistently taking action & making choices that move me closer to what I want.
